Name
Mairi Cumming
Background
Mairi’s first language in her early years was Gaelic and she had to learn English before she went to school. With parents from the Outer Hebrides, she was brought up surrounded by traditional and ceilidh music. Her Grandfather was crowned a Gaelic bard and her mother sang Gaelic songs on Radio Scotland. She has always loved the music of her childhood and didn’t actually realise that Robert Burns was responsible for many of the songs sung by the likes of ‘The Corries’ etc.
